Kalbe Farma, Southeast Asia’s largest listed pharmaceutical firm, is aiming for a 15 percent rise in sales this year, banking on the growing demand for generic drugs during the implementation of Indonesia’s new national heath care scheme.

Kalbe has set a revenue target of Rp 18.33 trillion ($1.5 billion), from last year’s projection of Rp 15.9 trillion, a company director reported.

Vidjongtius, Kalbe’s director for finance, said recently that the 15 percent target was lower than last year’s 17 percent. “This year’s target is a conservative one, so we believe that we can achieve it,” he added.

The Jakarta-based company has allotted Rp 1 trillion for capital expenditure this year, 40 percent of which will be spent for its nutrition and consumer health businesses. The company’s pharmaceutical drugs business and distribution will each get 30 percent of the capital expenditure.

Vidjontius added that this year’s performance would be supported by a sales increase in generic drugs, especially after the government implementation of a new health care system as of Jan. 1. For that reason, Kalbe has increased production capacity at its factory in Cikarang, West Java, by about 80 million tablets per month.

Kalbe allocated Rp 200 billion to expand its distribution network and opened at least four new branch offices.

The company also expects more revenue from its markets in the Philippines, Vietnam and Myanmar.

“We will continue to market our products overseas. We will introduce one or two new products to each of our overseas market,” Vidjontius said . “We will start distributing the products by the second quarter of 2014.” The overseas market accounts for 5 percent of the company’s revenue.
